Mission and Goals

MISSION:

American Indian Student Services is dedicated to Native American enrollment, achievement and success at the University of Montana.  Through a "Family Education" approach, AISS supports Native American students and their families as they negotiate academic life and their transition to the University of Montana and the Missoula community. AISS provides advocacy on behalf of students with university faculty, staff and academic departments.  AISS staff strives to provide  services to Native American students and their families, which includes academic, social, domestic and cultural supports, while providing university personnel with important information and advice to assure better understanding and encouragement to the Native American students at the University of Montana.

GOALS

  • The ultimate goal of American Indian Student Services is to facilitate American Indian student enrollment and success at the University of Montana.
  • Assist American Indian students entering the University of Montana and their adjustment to campus and community resources.
  • Provide advocacy to facilitate student utilization of critical services and to encourage University programs to accommodate needs of American Indian students to enhance their success.
  • Collaborate with existing services on campus to improve service delivery and assure student matriculation.
