DirectConnect is the internet service provided to all students living in the dorms and in the Lewis and Clark Village (LCV). The bandwidth is more or less equivalent to standard DSL in most residential homes.
Through a DirectConnect connection in your room, you can: collaborate on class computing assignments with other students on or off campus; utilize library resources; correspond with professors, friends or family via email, instant messanger or webcam; gather information for research projects and do so much more. In short, it will be faster and easier to achieve your academic goals by using a DirectConnect connection than by not.
You do not need to sign-up for a DirectConnect internet connection on Cyberbear. Your connection is included with the cost of your room. However, intersession rates for internet still apply. You need an Ethernet cable to connect your computer. The DirectConnect Office sells these cables.
RTA stands for Resident Technology Assistant. Each dorm and the LCV has an RTA who lives in the building and is available four nights per week to help residents with technical issues such as connecting to the internet and troubleshooting cable hook-ups, phones, and general computer issues.
