About DirectConnect
DirectConnect is an infrastructure of Ethernet computer network wiring and hardware which provides a direct computing link from your Residence Hall room to the networked computing resources at The University of Montana and the Internet at large. Ethernet is fast and efficient, opening doors to network applications that are not practical over a modem connection.
Through networking, you can: collaborate on class computing assignments with other students, on or off campus; utilize Library resources such as Griznet (online catalog); correspond with professors, friends or family through electronic mail; gather information for research projects.
Your academic goals and college experience will be greatly enhanced by using a DirectConnect connection.
The cost of DirectConnect is $160 dollars for the regular academic year. Additional rates are available for intersession and summer sessions. For the regular academic year, signing up early will allow us to have your connection ready and waiting for you when you arrive on campus – no waiting required, just a simple setup process when you first plug your computer into our network. The only way to sign up is through CyberBear under resident information, click here to go to Cyberbear.
RTA stands for Resident Technology Assistant. Every dorm has an RTA who lives in the building and is available a few nights of the week to help residents with technical issues, such as getting connected to the Internet, troubleshooting cable hookups, and troubleshooting the residents' phones.
