How To > Remove and Protect Against Spyware
Does your computer seem to be running slowly?. Are you receiving random 'pop-up' windows and advertisements? You may be a victim of Spyware and or Adware. These malicious programs infect your computer to collect information about the user and later send it out across the internet, or to display unsolicited advertisements.
Follow the steps below to troubleshoot this issue. To attempt remove these programs.
If you have web access go to www.lavasoftusa.com to download and install Ad-Aware. Ad-Aware is a free spyware removal program.
Update your definitions, and perform a full system scan
Once the scan has completed, right click any single object found and choose "Select all Objects"
Click remove.
Warning: Some programs have spyware built in and will stop working once the offending spyware and or adware removed. Including most peer-to-peer applications and other shareware programs.
Go to Start,
Control Panel,
Add/Remove Programs
Remove any programs that seem out of place or unnecessary
(i.e. mysearchbar, internet assistant, buynow, etc)
Restart your computer.
Test the problem. If the issue is not resolved, reboot your computer in "Safe Mode" and repeat steps 2-5.
