GSA Meeting Minutes 14

Topic 1: GSA budget

  • We have the budget to put on some great events in the spring
  • If needed, there are possible additional funding sources

Topic 2: Meet and Greet Update

  • Kallie will call the Kettlehouse and see if they will re-start Non-profit Wednesdays in time for us to hold an event there early next semester.  If not, we will continue to research alternate venues.

Topic 3: Next Week’s Meeting

  • Final meeting of fall semester will be next Friday, December 7th
  • Need to schedule weekly meeting date/time for next spring

 Topic 4: Big Sky Career Fair

  • Date is February 20th
  • There is also an educators’ career fair in the spring
  • We will re-invite many of the same speakers from last spring

 Topic 5: Spring Travel Awards

  • We have $5,600 to award for travel awards in the spring!!!  Great news!
  • The Due Date for spring applications will be Friday, Feb. 8, 2008

 Topic 6:  Conference Call to Cinna

  • Cinna was the GSA secretary last year, and she agreed to have a conference call with us to share some ideas of what worked and what she would recommend from her experiences last year.  We really appreciate her time!!
  • Gave recommendations for speakers for the upcoming grant writing workshop
  • Promotion?  Flyers and speaking with professors and grad students.
  • Hung flyers in every building that had a bulletin board – especially by doors
  • Advertised in the Kaimin for the forum with Deal Strobel and President Dennison
  • Newspapers and radio stations are legally obligated to print public service stuff for free
  • Bowling night?  Making a deal with the bowling alley to benefit both parties
  • Al and Vick’s on Thursday night?
  • Old Post also has lots of connections
  • Remember the importance of communication
  • Career Fair presenter topics:  interview skills and negotiation skills are important for grad students, resume building as well?
  • Dissertation/thesis online workshop – coordinated with and Ann and Kelly in the Graduate School office
  • Forum about credit change – GSA can help grad student interests
