EVST Non-Teaching Cash Awards
The following non-teaching cash awards are offered only to EVST students entering their second year (all awards are for the following academic year); contact the Environmental Studies Program for more information 406/243-6273 or evst@selway.umt.edu:

B & B Dawson Awards and Environmental Research Awards

Deadline: mid-AprilAwards vary from $50 to $750 and are designed to assist EVST students in their professional paper/thesis work. Student must submit a proposal to the EVST office based upon their thesis or professional paper research that includes the following:1. Statement of the problem or issue2. Significance of the problem or issue3. A detailed approach or method of studying/dealing with the problem4. A calendar or timeline involved in studying the problem5. A detailed budget6. A proposed table of contents for your thesis/professional paperRon and Nancy Erickson Award Deadline: mid-AprilAward is designed to assist EVST students whose major work is in the area of environmental ethics. Students are required to submit evidence of such work, i.e. publication, thesis/professional paper proposal, writing samples from seminars.

Len and Sandy Sargent Environmental Advocacy Award

Deadline: mid-AprilAward is designed to honor environmental activists. Students must submit evidence of their activism.

Clancy Gordon Environmental Scholarship
DEADLINE:
March or April
AMOUNT: One or two awards of up to $1400 each
ELIGIBILITY: Graduate students from the biological and physical sciences, and environmental studies at The University of Montana. Previous recipients are not eligible.
REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrated involvement/activism in applying scientific knowledge towards the resolution of environmental problems. Registration at The University of Montana during the school year the award will be received is required.
HOW TO APPLY: Send resume, a list of academic work (past and projected), graduate transcripts, a one-page statement of activities that demonstrate accomplishment/activism in applying scientific knowledge to environmental problems, and at least two supporting letters to:

Doris Duke Conservation Fellowships
EVST is among six programs selected nationwide (others are Cornell, Duke, University of Michigan, University of Wisconsin and Yale) to participate in The Doris Duke Conservation Fellows Program. The goal of the Fellowship Program is to identify future conservation leaders and encourage their choice of careers in nonprofit and public sector conservation in the United States. Fellows will be selected on the basis of their leadership potential and their interest in pursuing a career as a practicing nonprofit or public sector conservationist. Four (4 ) to six (6) Fellows will be selected per year. Fellowship includes waiver of tuition, internship support and a loan repayment stipend. The Doris Duke Conservation Fellowship Program is a partnership between The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and the Environmental Studies Program of The University of Montana. Wildlife Biology

Morris K. Udall Scholarship and Excellence in National Environmental Policy
Two fellowships of up to $24,000 to outstanding students whose dissertation is in the area(s) of environmental public policy and/or environmental conflict resolution. Deadline for application is mid-January. Details at www.udall.gov
