Kelly Chadwick, the UC's full-time Garden Supervisor, along with a few students who work part-time, is responsible for the care of the gardens. There are also volunteer positions and internships available for the care of the gardens. For Kelly and her team, care for the environment and the public is a very high priority. Because of this, no toxic chemicals are used on any of the gardens. Instead, many innovative bio-control techniques are used inside the building for pest control on the tropical plants. The major sprays used are an isopropyl alcohol and ivory soap mixture or a horticultural oil spray.
