Missoula has an average rental vacancy rate of 3% which makes way for a difficult time for renters.

You can make a difference by getting involved in The Off-Campus Renter Center's Student Housing Board or your Neighborhood Council.

Check out the links to the left for details on getting involved with our Student Housing Board or your Neighborhood Council.

The ASUM Off-Campus Renter Center is overseen by its Student Housing Board.

They come up with new ideas for the agency and work to assist UM student renters.

The Off-Campus Renter Center, with support of the Student Housing Board, has been involved with the following:

-In 2011, The Student Housing Board and the Director created the Neighborhood Ambassadors Program.

-In 2010, the Student Housing Board & Off-Campus Renter Center waited over four hours to speak at a Missoula City Council meeting in favor of the Anti-Discrimination Ordinance.  It passed!

-In spring 2010, we distributed a survey to over 14,000 students regarding their housing situations to gather important information on Missoula renters.

-The Voluntary Residential Inspection Program (VRIP) was created in collaboration with Mayor Engen, Councilman John Wilkins, The Off-Campus Renter Center and the Missoula Building Inspection Division.  The VRIP has helped many residents that live in deplorable conditions in their rentals.

-We host the annual Student Housing and Resources Fair in the University Center.  With over 30 property management companies, community services representatives and campus organizations in attendance, it is always a hit!

-In 2008, the Director created three new bills for the Montana Tenant/Landlord Act and we are always willing to talk about creating new policies at the state and local levels.
