Winter Recreation


Beginner XC Ski

Cross- Country Ski Outings (6 Options) - $30

When: 1/5, 1/27, 2/2, 2/9, 2/23 or 3/2

Register by: 1/2, 1/23, 1/30, 2/6, 2/20, 2/27

Get out and brighten up your winter with a cross-country ski day trip. We will head to local groomed trails and cover basic techniques and tips to enjoy this fun winter sport. Suitable for all skill levels! Cost includes transportation, equipment and guides.

Avalanche level 1 class

Level 1 Avalanche Classes (4 Options)

Option 1: Missoula, January 22,23,26,27 for $240.  Option 2: Ravalli County, February 8,9,10 for $190.  Option 3: Ravalli County, March 3,4,5 for $190.

Option 4: Missoula, March 12, 13, 16, 17 for $240.

Level 1 Avalanche Class follows the Level 1 guidelines of the American Avalanche Association. Participants must have the ability and the tools to travel in the winter back-country and navigate inconsistent snow conditions on snowboards or skis. Split boards or skis with climbing skins are the most efficient choice; snowboarders with snowshoes are a second choice. Participants must have an avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe. Ski Maintenance

Ski & Snowboard Maintenance Class - $5

Two Options: February 7 or 14, 6:00pm at the Outdoor Program Workbench

Register by: February 6 or 13

Keep your equipment tuned all winter! Join us for a one-hour hands-on workshop at the Outdoor Program workbench about waxing and sharpening your board or skis. Cost includes personal instruction, use of bench and tools, and a stick of universal wax or P-tex.

Fernie

Fernie Alpine Ski Trip, British Columbia, Canada - $415

When:  February 15-18

Register by: February 13  Pre-trip meeting: February 13 at 6pm in the Outdoor Program.

Fernie Alpine Resort is a big mountain with big  terrain known particularly for its high annual snowfall. Lots of lifts and three huge bowls for great powder skiing! Cost includes transportation, lodging, and a 2-day lift ticket. Participants must have a valid passport.

Cross Country Ski Weekend in Glacier National Park - $110

When: February 15-18

Register by: February 11  Pre-trip meeting: February 13 at 5pm in the Outdoor Program.

Spend an active winter weekend in beautiful Glacier National Park! We will spend three nights in a hostel and two days cross-country skiing throughout the park. Spots are limited, register early!

basic mountaineering

Basic Mountaineering - $50

When: March 2

Register by: February 27

This class will be an introduction to mountaineering. Learn about trip planning, gear, anchors, rope travel, how to self arrest, self belay, and how to safely travel in the mountains. Price includes instruction, gear & transportation.

Wapta

The Wapta Ski Traverse, Canadian Rockies - $995

When:  Spring Break! March 30 - April 6

Register by: March 8.  Pre-trip Meeting: March 13 at 5pm.

A trip of a lifetime through arguably the best backcountry hut system in North America! This is a strenuous backcountry ski tour in alpine, mostly glaciated terrain. Participants must be able to ski safely and controlled at times while wearing a heavy backpack. Includes 5-day guided trip, 4 nights in Alpine Club huts, 2 night in a hostel, food, transportation, and certified Canadian Mountain Guides.  More information is available on the trip information sheet or by calling the Outdoor Program at 243-5172.
