Dear RA,
University Dining Services (UDS) is excited to welcome you for the 2011/2012 academic year. I would like to personally invite each of you to join us throughout the academic year as we provide special dining events in the Food Zoo Dining Room. Many of our guests are away from home for the first time, and we recognize the importance of food in providing the comfort necessary to make this transition smooth.
Mike Spencer, Associate Director Residential Dining

As the largest employer of University students in Missoula, with over 400 students employed each semester, we have plenty of jobs available. Some of the benefits of working with us include a free meal following a 3-hour shift, a flexible schedule that won't conflict with classes, and an easy commute. Simply have your floor resident fill out the application online.
UDS is committed to doing our part to help promote a healthier planet. Our sustainability initiatives are dynamic and broad-reaching and include, new resusable Food Zoo carry-out containers, recycling, green cleaning chemicals, trayless and composting. We continue to compost all Food Zoo pulped material and transform it into soil enhancing material to be used at the PEAS Farm.
The UM Farm to College Program has created beneficial relationships between the University and Montana farmers and ranchers. We make it a priority to use local foods in our kitchens whenever possible. Since its inception, the UM Farm to College Program has recirculated over $5 million back into our state agricultural economies.
We have also established a garden on the south side of the Lommasson Center.
Selected recipes sent in by parents from around the world are prepared in the Food Zoo Dining Room for students, faculty, and staff to enjoy! We select recipes in the fall and the spring for our two Family Favorites days. As an expression of our appreciation for their contribution, a commemorative plaque will be delivered to the parent(s) whose recipe is selected to be included in the menu rotation in the Food Zoo. The best two dishes voted on by our guests will recieve an iPod.
Our Bear Hugs Gift Program provides parents and friends the opportunity to send gift packages to that special someone on campus. Bear Hugs gift packages include birthday cakes, balloons, decorative mugs filled with candy, and much more.

UDS provides floor snacks as an additional service to the Residence Life Staff. This service provides an opportunity for Resident Assistants and their floors to have snacks provided during gatherings. Snacks consist of a variety of items including fresh baked goods from the Bear Claw Bakery and UM Farm to College items when available.
- If you are not able to pick up your scheduled snacks, please send a designated floor representative.
- Any snack not picked-up will count towards the RA's six (6) snacks for the semester and Residence Life Office will be contacted.
- Failure to pick-up two (2) snacks during the semester, will result in you losing your dorm snack privileges for the remainder of the semester.
- If you have any questions, please call 243-5650.
All Residence Hall Events are held to bring Residence Life Staff and their residents together for a meeting or social function.
The only food allowed to leave the Food Zoo Dining Room is food purchased through the To-Go Program. Food must fit in one of the approved Food Zoo To-Go containers and the container lid must be able to close properly.
In-Room Dining is available to ill or injured students. Simply call 243-5650 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. weekdays to arrange for a friend or Resident Assistant to pick up your meal. The person picking up the meal must bring the ill/injured person's Griz Card to the Food Zoo's north entrance. For weekend meals, make arrangements by calling the Food Zoo Kitchen at 243-2324.
