Welcome Resident Assistants

Dear RA,

University Dining Services (UDS) is excited to welcome you for the 2011/2012 academic year. I would like to personally invite each of you to join us throughout the academic year as we provide special dining events in the Food Zoo Dining Room. Many of our guests are away from home for the first time, and we recognize the importance of food in providing the comfort necessary to make this transition smooth.

Mike Spencer, Associate Director Residential Dining

Employment

As the largest employer of University students in Missoula, with over 400 students employed each semester, we have plenty of jobs available.  Some of the benefits of working with us include a free meal following a 3-hour shift, a flexible schedule that won't conflict with classes, and an easy commute. Simply have your floor resident fill out the application online.

Sustainability Initiatives

UDS is committed to doing our part to help promote a healthier planet.  Our sustainability initiatives are dynamic and broad-reaching and include, new resusable Food Zoo carry-out containers, recycling, green cleaning chemicals, trayless and composting. We continue to compost all Food Zoo pulped material and transform it into soil enhancing material to be used at the PEAS Farm.

UM Farm to College Program

The UM Farm to College Program has created beneficial relationships between the University and Montana farmers and ranchers.  We make it a priority to use local foods in our kitchens whenever possible.  Since its inception, the UM Farm to College Program has recirculated over $5 million back into our state agricultural economies.

We have also established a garden on the south side of the Lommasson Center.

Family Favorites Program

Selected recipes sent in by parents from around the world are prepared in the Food Zoo Dining Room for students, faculty, and staff to enjoy! We select recipes in the fall and the spring for our two Family Favorites days.  As an expression of our appreciation for their contribution, a commemorative plaque will be delivered to the parent(s) whose recipe is selected to be included in the menu rotation in the Food Zoo. The best two dishes voted on by our guests will recieve an iPod.

Bear Hugs Gift Program

Our Bear Hugs Gift Program provides parents and friends the opportunity to send gift packages to that special someone on campus.  Bear Hugs gift packages include birthday cakes, balloons, decorative mugs filled with candy, and much more.
