Summer Aid

Students enrolling in at least six credits for the summer 2013 semester who submit their 2012-2013 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) no later than June 30^th, 2013, may be eligible for federal and institutional summer aid.  At The University of Montana the Summer 2013 Semester is considered part of the 2012-2013 academic year.  Session dates and deadlines may be found at www.umt.edu/ce/summer/default. 

Applying for Summer Semester Financial Aid:

To apply for Summer Semester financial aid, please submit the Summer 2013 Financial Aid Application.  This form usually is available in early March when summer class registration begins.  Students who submit a Summer 2013 Federal Aid Application must read the Rights and Responsibilities.

Summer Work Study

Two Summer Work Study Programs are available:

• In-school Work Study is a program for students who are enrolled in classes and who want work study as part of an aid package to support tuition and living expenses.  Submit the Summer 2013 Federal Aid Application to apply for In-School Work Study.
• The Work Study Only program is for continuing students who only want work study aid and are not enrolled in summer classes. Students must submit the 2013 Work Study Only Application to apply for the Work Study Only program.

 Available Aid for Summer Semester:

Federal Stafford Loans:

Federal Stafford (Subsidized and Unsubsidized) Loans are available to students who have not already reached their annual loan limits prior to the summer semester. Students whose grade level has changed from freshmen to sophomore or from sophomore to junior by the start of the Summer Semester may also be eligible for additional Federal Stafford Loans.   

Federal PLUS Loans for Parents:

A dependent student’s parent may apply for a Federal PLUS Loan.  The student must provide their parent contact information on the Summer 2013 Federal Aid Application.  The Financial Aid Office will contact that parent for approval that the parent is willing to borrow the Federal PLUS Loan. 

Federal PLUS Loans for Graduate Students:

Federal PLUS Loans are available to graduate students who have reached their annual loan limits for the Federal Stafford Loan Program and need additional funding. 

Private Student Loans:

Students may apply for private student loans.   The student would need to apply with a bank or lending agency and complete all their requirements.  That agency will contact the Financial Aid Office for certification.  

Federal Pell Grant:

Students who submit the Summer 2013 Financial Aid Application will automatically be considered for the Federal Pell Grant if they have not already reached the annual maximum.  Students who attend full-time Autumn and Spring will likely not have remaining eligibility for the summer.
