Dial-up vs. IP Transaction Processing

The machine used to process UMoney transactions, the Verifone Vx570, has a few different models. Most models will allow you to process transactions through both dial-up and IP (Ethernet), but what method works best for you? Interested in becoming a UMoney Merchant?

In July 2005 the Griz Card Center introduced the UMoney program as a convenience to the campus community and Missoula businesses. UMoney is The University of Montana’s official off campus spending program that anyone with a Griz Card can use. The Griz Card Center makes it convenient for cardholders to deposit by providing numerous methods including in-person and online. Once the account is loaded with funds, cardholders simply present their Griz Card to merchants and funds are deducted using Verifone hardware connected to the Griz Card system.

There are many benefits to being a UMoney merchant including:

• It gives you access to student purchasing power as UMoney can only be spent at accepted locations on and off campus. 
• UMoney sales reached over $750,000 in FY11, with 22% of sales at off-campus locations. 
• UMoney merchants have higher recognition levels among campus members and have increased marketing opportunities on campus. 
• UMoney provides a low-to-no cost outlet by consistently advertising via the University's official TV channel (see sample on the right), participating in campus events, and displaying merchant's promotional materials and menus in the Griz Card Center and during special events. 
• UMoney Merchants are promoted through the Griz Card Center's Facebook page.
• UMoney Merchants are featured on the interactive UMoney merchant map that cardholders use to find more information.

UMoney Merchants pay a commission on each sale, normally 4%, and are also required to purchase or already own a Verifone Vx570 so that the UMoney software can be loaded onto their terminal. Please contact our office for more details on the program's contract and the equipment needed.
