Accessibility in Housing

 Accommodations and Disability Access

UM’s Residence Life programs are accessible to students with disabilities and Residence Life will make every reasonable effort to ensure that students with disabilities can participate in all Residence Life programs. Accessible housing is available in various buildings depending upon the needs of the individual student.  Pantzer, Miller, Aber and Jesse Halls, Lewis and Clark Village and University Villages are spaces that can accommodate students with mobility concerns.  If you have a disability and will need to request reasonable modifications, the following types of information will be required in order to ensure the proper accommodations are identified and available.  Please note that timely housing applications and requests for accessibility are critical if you wish to have accessible housing when you arrive on campus!  Please describe the functional impact of your disability

  • Do you use a wheel chair?
  • Do you have any concerns related to physical floor space within the room?  (What is the length/width of your wheelchair?)
  • Will you bring a medical bed? If so, what are the measurements?  And what arrangements will be made for delivery and set up.
  • Will you require a lift or any other medical equipment kept in the room?   If so describe and provide measurements or space needs and what arrangements will be made for delivery and set up.
  • Is an accessible shower or bathroom needed?
  • Do you have concerns regarding opening doors and operating elevators?
  • Do you use care givers?  If so will the care giver require living accommodations next to you?
  • Will you bring a service animal? (See The University of Montana’s Service and Companion Animal Policy)
  • Do you have any privacy concerns which would preclude use of a communal bathroom?
  • Do you use signaling devices such as a flashing fire alarm?
