PROBLEM WITH SIGNAL ??

On - Campus Cable TV Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting

1.  Is your TV set plugged in to the electricity and the cable outlet as diagrammed below?  You can use one cable connection or the other.  [Wall Outlet --> Television]or [Wall Outlet --> VCR/DVD Player --> Television]  Remember to use a Coaxial CableNOT a Yellow, Red or White RCA Cable.

Cable TV Setup Diagram

  • If you need a cable coaxial cord they may be purchased at Jesse Hall 107
    between 1-4pm Monday-Friday.

2.  Is you TV set cable ready?

  • Does you TV go beyond channel 13 on your dial or does your TV have a coaxial cord outlet on the back of the TV? 99.9% of TVs are cable ready - any TV bought in the past few years is cable ready but your old TV from Mom's sewing room may not be.

    • If No, your TV may not support Cable TV

    • You may have to contact your RTA by stopping at your hall desk to obtain a converter box. And hook up according to the diagram to the right.

3.  If you are receiving more than local channels (8, 11, and 13) your Cable TV is activated. You likely only have your TV, VCR, DVD or remote programmed to acknowledge certain channels.

Consult your owner's manual for programming instructions.

  • If your TV is set to acknowledge only certain channels, make sure you have the TV CATV or Antenna signal choice selecting the CATV Choice.
    • Some TV's have a button for this choice
    • Some TV's are programmed through the menu using your remote control.

4.  Is your TV hooked up through a VCR or DVD? (see Diagram Above)

  • Are the proper coaxial cables according to the diagram at right? Is your TV set to channel 2, 3 or 4 as required by your particular VCR and TV? Be sure to try all three!
  • You will need to use your VCR remote to change channels. It is possible your VCR may require programming to find all the cable channels. Follow your particular VCR's programming instructions.

Still Having Problems?

After completing all of the above, go to your hall desk and sign up for assistance from your RTA.
