Student Insurance FAQ

Why am I required to have Insurance?

Everyone needs health insurance coverage, even students. Good health is essential to your academic success, and adequate insurance makes sure you get the care you need to maintain good health. Unexpected medical bills can also threaten your ability to complete your education if you are uninsured or have inadequate coverage.

How do I enroll in the Student insurance?

If you are taking at least one state supported or self supported credit, you are eligible for the Student Insurance Plan. You will need to complete the insurance election/waiver section on Cyberbear by electing the Student Insurance Plan. If you elect the Student Insurance Plan, you will be charged for the student insurance and the Curry Health Fee regardless of the number of credits you enroll for. (Note: Curry Health Fee is a required fee at 7 or more credits.

What if I don't need the Student Insurance because I have my own?

If you have other medical insurance coverage, you would then waive the student insurance on CyberBear before you register for your classes.

What does the Student Insurance cover?

The insurance provides major medical and prescription coverage.  It covers 70% of medically necessary expenses after a deductible is met. This includes but is not limited to office visits, prescriptions, hospitalization, and counseling.

Will the Insurance I have now cover me while I'm in Montana attending school?

We don't know what YOUR insurance will cover. You need to check with your insurance carrier and verify what benefits are available if you are away from home. For example, some plans have very good benefits worldwide, while other plans only provide coverage if you are within a certain geographic area.

Will I be covered if I'm outside of Missoula?

Yes, whether you are studying abroad or home for the weekend, this plan provides coverage worldwide.

If I have the Student Insurance, do I have to use the Curry Health Center?

No, but there are advantages to using Curry Health Center. Conveniently located on campus, Curry Health Center often can save you money because most services are already paid for through the Health Fee. Curry Health Center providers can provide referrals to outside providers if the services you need are outside of the scope or expertise of Curry Health Center providers.

What are the deductible and co-pay amounts?

The deductible is $300 per benefit year and the co-pay ratio is 70/30.

Are prescriptions covered?

Yes. Once you have met the $300 deductible you are reimbursed 70% for medically necessary prescriptions.

What is the premium and how do I pay for it?

The premium is $736.00 per semester. If you elect the student insurance plan, the premium will be placed on your schedule/bill and is paid at the same time you pay your other fees.

What are dates of coverage?

Fall semester 2009 coverage begins August 24, 2009 and expires January 3, 2010. Spring semester 2010 coverage begins January 4, 2010 and expires August 31, 2010.

Does the plan cover dental or vision?

The insurance does not cover vision. There is a limited dental benifit (max $1,000.00) that covers tooth extraction only. However, Curry Health Center has a dental clinic that provides services at significantly reduced rates compared to private dental services.
