Registration:
The Testing Center is available to administer the GRE Mondays – Saturdays except for holidays and when the GRE is unavailable due to other testing. The cost of the GRE is $140.
Computer Based Testing:
A computer-adaptive test is tailored to your performance level and provides precise information about your abilities using fewer test questions than traditional paper-based tests. Since the computer scores each question before selecting the next one, you must answer each question when it is presented. For this reason, once you answer a question and move on to another, you cannot go back and change your answer. NOTE: The GRE Subject exams will continue to be offered in paper-based format.
GRE General Exam Content & Scores:
You are allowed up to 4 hours to take the exam; the exam consists of three scored sections: Analytical writing (75 minutes total), made up of two separately-timed writing tasks; Verbal (30 minutes); and, Quantitative (45 minutes). In addition, the General Test may contain an unidentified verbal or quantitative section, which contains questions for use in future test administration and does not count toward a score, as well as an identified research section. The sequence of sections may vary, but the analytical writing section always appears as the first section, and the research section, if administered, will always appear as the last section. NOTE: There is no NEXT icon in the analytical writing section. If an examinee finishes an essay before time expires, s/he may use the SECTION EXIT icon to leave the section.
You will receive unofficial scores for this exam on day of test, and in 3-4 weeks, you and four schools of your choice will receive the office scores.
Non-Standard Testing/Special Accommodations:
Arrangements for nonstandard testing accommodations must be made through ETS and prior to the testing date.
Preparing for the Exam:
There is GRE studyware available on the student-use computers in Career Services, Lommasson 154, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, on a first-come, first-serve basis. In two to three weeks, after registering, you will receive CDs to study for the GRE, but you may also download same at this site. GRE study guides (many that have CD-ROMS) may be purchased at the bookstore, used bookstores, or possibly the library. Also, check out for test question examples.

GRE policy states you may take the computer-based GRE exam once per calendar month and up to five (5) times a year. If you test more than once per month, your new scores will not be reported and your test fee will be forfeited.
