Computer Based Testing > PRAXIS I > CBT Praxis I Exam (PPST)

Computerized PPST (Pre-Professional Skills Test)

The University of Montana – Missoula

Registration:

The Testing Center is available to administer the Praxis I Mondays – Saturdays except for holidays and when the Praxis I is unavailable due to other testing. The cost of the combined PPST is $130 or separately: one test ($80), two tests ($120), or three tests ($160).

  1. You may register in the testing service office (Lommasson 154) with either a personal check, money order, credit card (Visa, M/C, AmE) or GRE voucher number.
  2. You may call the Testing Center at 243-2175 and register with Credit Card only.
  3. You may call 1-800-853-6773 with a credit card or voucher number.

Computer Based Testing:

The computerized PPST exams are offered as linear-type exams (you can go back). Your score will be based on the number of questions you answer correctly. Unanswered questions and incorrect answers are not counted in your score. It is to your advantage to pace yourself so that you have enough time to carefully consider every question. Pay close attention to the number of questions and the amount of available time remaining to be sure you are making good progress through the test.

PPST Content & Scores:

There are three sections within the combined PPST test: Mathematics (46 questions/75 minutes); Reading (46 questions/75 minutes); and Writing (Multiple-choice/44 questions/38 minutes) and essay (1 essay/30 minutes).

You will receive unofficial scores for the Math (minimum score required, Montana, 170) and Reading (minimum score required, Montana, 170) exams on day of tests, and in approximately 3-4 weeks, you and four schools of your choice will receive the official scores that will include the Writing (minimum score required, Montana, 170).

Non-Standard Testing/Special Accommodations:

Arrangements for non-standard testing accommodations must be made through ETS and prior to the testing date.

Preparing for the Exam:

You may purchase study guides at the bookstore (many of them have CD-ROMS); the Education Dept has materials available at the campus library. You may possibly find a study guide for the PPST exam at a used bookstore. In addition, you should obtain a free "Tests at a Glance" booklet for each test you plan to take. Get these booklets through the testing center, order them by calling ETS at 609-771-7395, or view and download them from this Web site.

Retaking the Test:

The Praxis I computer-based test may be taken only once in any given 60-day period. If this restriction is violated, the scores from the retest will not be reported and the test fees will not be refunded.

Rescheduling or Canceling:

Notify test center at 406/243-2175 (or 1-800-853-6773) no later than three (3) business days before appointment to reschedule or cancel or test fee will be forfeited. If cancelled within appropriate time limit, you receive a $60 refund (or $20 per test). To reschedule, within appropriate time limit, the fee is $45 (or $15 per test).
