Miller Analogies Test (MAT) Information

General Information about the MAT:

The MAT is a 100 item test. A "passing" score depends on the requirements of the universities to which you are applying. A "good" score may range from 30 to 70. Please contact the schools to which you are applying to find out what score you need in order to "pass." The MAT is a high-level mental ability test requiring the solution of the 100 problems stated as analogies; A : B :: C : D, which can be read as "A is to B as C is to D". Fluency in the English language, a broad knowledge of literature, philosophy, history, science, mathematics, and fine arts, and the ability to reason out relationships may contribute to one's performance on the MAT. For answers to questions or for more information call the Testing Services at 406/243-6257 or testingservices@umontana.edu

Registering for the MAT:

The Miller Analogies Test is administered by appointment only in Lommasson 154. Fee for the test is $70 which must be paid by either cash, check, money order or credit card at the testing center. You must bring a photo ID such as a driver's license in order to be admitted to the test. If you took the MAT in the last year you must bring the re-test ticket that was mailed to you when you received your test results. Test results will be sent to you in about two to four weeks.

In order to take the MAT call 406/243-2175 and make an appointment. If you are using a "re-test ticket" and have lost it, please call MAT at (800) 622-3231 to obtain another one as we are not allowed to retest you without it.
