Are you looking for a meaningful career?

A career in which you can make a difference in the lives of other people? A career where you could work at a small liberal arts college, a community college, or a big university? A career where you will be challenged to develop skills in a variety of areas, such as leadership, advising/counseling, administration, or supervision? If so, then you are in the right place, because the field of student affairs provides just such careers.

Student Internships

SAIL is a competitive intern placement program which allows students to explore career opportunities in UM Student Affairs departments. SAIL interns are selected for their interest in Student Affairs as a career opportunity. They are awarded

  • In-state tuition waivers
  • and receive $10.00/hour for the two semester experience.

Fall semester, SAIL interns spend 15-20 hours per week in four week rotations in three Student Affairs departments gaining knowledge of each department’s programs, services, and operations.

Interns may have the option of doing an in-depth 16 week spring semester immersion in one of those three units based on student interest and/or departmental needs.

Review the Role Descriptions of the four-week rotations.

SAIL internships have led to full-time positions in University Dining Services and Enrollment Services for two recent interns. Other successful interns have found career placements locally and nationally.
